I was watching the "Planet Earth" series the other night and there was a segment about two warring tribes of chimpanzees. It was freakin' terrifying, especially when the chimps started cannibalizing each other. WHY NATURE??? On the bright the side I was inspired to this illustration!

I was never completely satisfied with the previous version of this picture I went back and played around with it. Decided to give it a night a setting which I thought made for a more dramatic look. More smoke and fire to show how much damage this beasts are doing. Also, adding more beast to give you the feeling that this is an all out attack.

I did these concepts for cartoon series I created with my friend Chris Sweeney about a year ago. During my senior year at SVA we were asked to come up with our own project and create 4 or 5 illustrations based off that concept. I was really interested in TV animation at the time so I decided that my illustrations would sort of be a "pitch", to give producers or whatever an idea of what they were buying. It was a fun project and I would love to actually get it made some day. I even animated some small scenes, and made a trailer. Maybe I'll post it on here...Maybe... You'll notice these are done in a different "style" than my previous posts. I think it's pretty clear what it's me, you know, because of all monsters and lasers. I'm shocked that they hold up a year later, but who knows what I'll think in another two years... hehe.

Freelancing and a stint at the video sharing site Vimeo were some of things I kept myself busy with. Hey everybody up top are the inside pages of a comic I'm doing for Mocca. It's called "The Danger Ranger" and is sort of video game inspired. You have to actually fold the pages out to read it. Risque Geisha

I did this illustration for Marcos Chin's Fashion Illustration class. We were given two random words and had to come up with an illustration based on those words. I got Risque Geisha. It was an interesting process coming up with this one, going back to the drawing board, coming up with new ideas. Originally it was a lot more monstrous, but Marcos suggested scaling it back a bit. I'm glad he did because it forced me to do more research and I think come back with a better illustration. So here it is, Risque Geisha.

P.S. (The Dream of the FIsherman's Wife print by Hokusai was a definite inspiration for this. Love that Hokusai!)

So for the two or three people who read this blog (hey mom!) you are probably wondering where all my post went. Well, in effort to be more professional I'm only posting work that I consider "post" worthy. Stuff I"m proud of, stuff that others will see and say "Oooo, now that is a pretty picture!" I believe the previous art posts I had on here are not indicative of my abilities as an illustrator. It was me feeling stuff out. They were going in the right direction, but all in all, they were just glorified sketches. Over the past year I've learned so much about drawing, composition, color etc, and those are the pieces I want people to see. So don't worry, the blog isn't going away, nor is it going on hiatus. I know that in the past I haven't been the greatest about posting frequently, but I hope that it is going to change. I plan on taking a greater effort in posting and posting the good stuff. So yeah, don't leave me, stick with me, and hopefully you will see some stuff that will make your pants catch on fire. HOT PANTS.

P.S. Check out the Strange Being link as well. It's where I will be posting all my collaborative work with my friend Chris Sweeney, who is a flippin' genius when it comes to writing and drawing. We're working hard on some amazing things, and I can't wait to show you the blood, sweat, and tears. But the good kind of tears you know, happy tears............. what?
